During the Nazi occupation (1939–1945), French people “scorned Pétain’s vow to rid France of the Third Republic, which had hosted an exceptional literary and artistic flowering” [and] which he had denounced as overrun by homosexuals and women.” (sounds like something that came out of the mouth of some religionist in the USA),
“They felt betrayed” by the way way in which Pétain sought to destroy the ideas of ‘Liberté, Egalité, Fraternit’ (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) of the French Revolution and replace them with ‘Travail, Famille, Patrie’ (Work, Family, Country) slogan of the État Français (French State).
Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité | Travail, Famille, Patrie |
Liberty | Work |
Fraternity | Family (Domination) |
Relationships | Country (Dictatorship) |
