rLive

By Matt Perez

Iconoclasts talking to each about their ideas and experience with alternative to the Fiat system we live in today.

The form of association, which if mankind continue to improve, must be expected in the end to predominate, is not that which can exist between a capitalist as chief, and work-people without a voice in the management, but the association of the labourers themselves on terms of equality, collectively owning the capital with which they carry on their operations.

Format

The format is inspired by the HBO series Iconoclasts which featured “an hour of personal conversation and storytelling.” ∇  There are no “hosts” or “guests,” it is simply people talking about their journeys, going against the grain of traditional beliefs and institutions, projecting what the world would be like if they were successful in their efforts.

Modality

Simple
  • The rLive! episodes are online (e.g., Zoom, Riff) or in person
  • Each speaker must appear to be looking at the other most of the time, not the camera. Their camera is the third party in the room and they could speak to it, too.
In Person
  • Having the conversation in person. If need be, one Iconoclasts would travel to the other.
  • It can be recorded at the Iconoclasts home or office or some iconic nearby place (i.e., with no background noise). Segments for the episode could be recorded in different locations.
  • We can record with a (phone) camera on a tripod and a fixed/directional audio setup. If there’s local help, that person could be recording with a roving (phone) camera.
Full Production
  • Hire a local videographer to give the Iconoclasts the ability to walk and move around.
  • Multiple cameras.
  • Record in public places, with people mulling about, ambient hum, etc.

Costs

Simple
  • Green screen.
  • Local recording.
  • The time and tools to record and edit.
  • Distribution platforms.
In Person
  • Travel for one Iconoclasts and local videographer.
  • For lodging, stay with the local Iconoclasts, or Airbnb, or hotel.
  • Equipment rental.
Full Production

Same as In Person, plus,

  • Videographer and audio person.
  • Equipment rental.

Launch

We will start by pairing up with the first few guests. For example, Doug Kirkpatrick and Chuck Blakeman on the co-management side and Nathan Schneider on the co-ownership side.

We want diverse Iconoclasts. It could be an experienced co-management practitioner on one hand, and a traditional boss on the other. Other things to consider are age, gender, and ethnicity. The point is to create a high contrast that screams “this works for everybody, including you, the audience.”

Later, these Iconoclasts can recruit other people to record an episode with. We need to make this as frictionless as possible while insisting that the Radical message not be diluted. The whole episode could be all about how “it won’t work,” but the Radical message has to be central. Otherwise, the show won’t be published under the brand, although the participants will get the raw material to use as they see fit.
